$8 billion annual investment in water is required in Asia

Green Directory News - Oct. 13 - $8 billion annual investment in water is required in Asia. Asia needs to focus on improving water security, providing drinking water and sanitation and most of that should come from the private sector: the Asian Development Bank (The ADB).

The ADB decided to focus on the core issue of water security and intended to annual investment on water projects of $2-2.4 billion under a proposed 10-year plan.
Thapan, ADB's senior advisor said that bank has being investing on water project since 2005 and now needs attention on managing demands and improving water consumption efficiency.

Asia should use efficient strategies to save water and should focus on the protection of regional food and energy security otherwise the region could face a 40 percent gap between water demand and supply in 2030.

More private investment companies and expertise can bring betterment regarding this issue. He said that Manila's experience in combating leakages could be a model that Asia should follow to improve sustainable water supply.
